Machine Shed

Occupying much of the centre aisle is a large steam engine which was used to pull the largest plows or to power the largest threshing machines. This one was built in 1902 in Racine, Wisconsin and was brought by train to Herbert, Sask. Sometimes, a group of farmers would pool together to buy a steamer, and often, threshing crews owned one. The steamer is powered by steam, which is created by heating water to the boiling point, using wood, coal or straw to make the fire. In the left corner, you can see the bread wagon which was used by the 4X Bakery of Caribou St. E. (accross from Memorial Field) in Moose Jaw.
