Stationary Engines Building

bigger picture

These are all called stationary engines because they were not intended to be moved from place to place. On the left side are the elevator engines which were needed to drive the augers that took the grain to the top of the tall elevator buildings. On the right side is the fanning mill - used to "clean seeds" - that is, to separate the weed seeds from the seed grain. It was hand built by John Fulston in 1917.
